Twitch slots ban: what the rule changed and what still airs

On 18 October 2022 Twitch tightened its gambling rules. The company had already banned sharing links or referral codes to sites that include slots, roulette or dice. After a year of watching people dodge that rule — and after public pressure, including campaigns about harm to young viewers — it prohibited the stream itself for a listed set of unlicensed rooms.

Twitch’s own safety note, “Prohibiting Unsafe Slots, Roulette, and Dice Gambling Sites,” is the primary source. The test was not “any gambling on camera.” It was: the site includes slots, roulette or dice, and it is not licensed in the United States or in another jurisdiction Twitch treated as offering protections such as deposit limits, waiting periods and age verification.

The rule applied globally to Twitch accounts. It covered other domain endings and “free” social skins of the same brands. Linking those sites in chat was prohibited too.
