10 ball pool when the 10 counts only as a called last ball

10 ball pool, in the WPA rules effective 21 October 2026, is call shot played in numerical order. The 10 wins only when it is the last object ball and the shooter called it. A ball that falls on a shot you did not call, with no foul, lets the opponent choose who shoots next.

The 10 wins only as a called last ball

Ten-ball in the October 2026 WPA book is rotation with a call. You play the lowest numbered ball first, the way 9-ball makes you play the lowest ball, and you also name the ball and the pocket when the shot is meant to score. The 10 is the winner only in one situation: it is the last object ball left, and you called it into that pocket. A 10 that rattles in while other balls are still sitting there is not a championship shot. It comes back onto its spot.

That single limit is why players who like 9-ball sometimes hate 10-ball, and why players who like call shot put up with the numbers. Luck can still hide the lowest ball or kiss the 10 toward a pocket. Luck does not cash the rack unless the call matches the ball that fell and the 10 was last. The paraphrase stops there. The PDF's longer call language is not pasted onto this page.

Called shots beside the rotation games

10-ball is a called rotation game. This site does not run it for money. The 8-ball cashier is 8 ball pool online.

The other rule cards are the 9-ball push, a called bank, and 8-ball calls. The group is the games of chance guides.

The match is the 8-ball table. A finished rack can be checked on the fairness page. Adults 18 and over only, and only where a stake is legal. Limits are on responsible gambling.

A triangle, a push, and no safety call

The rack is a triangle, not the 9-ball diamond. The 1 is on the foot spot. The 10 is in the middle of the pack. Break from the same family of rules that 9-ball uses for a push afterward: if the break was not a foul, the second shot may be a push out. Wrong-ball-first and the no-rail requirement are suspended for that shot. The opponent then chooses who shoots. A pushed 10 that falls is not a win. The 10 is spotted unless the pocketing was the called shot that won the rack.

Later in the rack there is no safety call. You do not announce "safety" to change the meaning of a ball that drops. If you meant to play safe and a ball falls without a foul, you live with the 10-ball consequence for a pocketed ball that was not the called shot. The opponent chooses the next shooter. The missing safety call is a feature of this chapter, not an oversight in the summary.

Call the shot, then call the winner

Six 10-ball checks

  • Rack a triangle with the 1 on the foot spot and the 10 in the middle.
  • Play the lowest ball first, and call the ball and pocket when you intend to score.
  • Count the 10 only when it is last and you called it.
  • Spot the 10 if it fell on anything other than that called win.
  • Use a push out only as the second shot after a break that was not a foul.
  • Do not look for a 10-ball button here. This site does not stake the game.

A pocketed ball that was not the call

Call shot is harsh when the right ball finds the wrong hole, or the wrong ball finds a hole you never named. In this 10-ball chapter, a ball pocketed on a shot that was not the call, without a foul, does not end your turn by the usual "you keep shooting" habit. The opponent chooses who shoots next. That choice can leave you at the table if the leave is terrible, or take the table away if you accidentally solved the problem. It is a choice, not an automatic loss, and it is not an automatic continue.

The 10 follows a stricter bookkeeping rule than the lower balls. It is spotted unless it was the called winning shot. So a 10 that falls early, or falls on a shot aimed at the 4, returns to the table. A lower ball that falls off the call can stay down while the opponent decides the next shooter. Remembering which ball comes back is the whole difference between a gift and a respotted money ball.

Why this cashier has no 10-ball button

This site does not run 10-ball for money. The rules above are WPA paraphrase so a reader can tell 10-ball from 9-ball and from this site's 8-ball. The stake lobby sells 8-ball: call a pocket only for the 8, a 5% fee, winner 95%, stakes from $1 to $50. It does not sell a called 10. It also does not sell 9-ball, straight pool, one-pocket, bank, cutthroat, or killer.

That is enough curiosity to deserve a straight answer, and not a reason to pretend a button exists. If you want three fouls to lose a 10-ball rack, play that game where it is offered. Three consecutive fouls do lose the rack in the WPA chapter. They do not create a match on this website. Read the called pocket before you celebrate a fallen 10.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Not from the facts used here. The 10 wins only when it is the last object ball and the shooter called it. If it falls some other way, it is spotted. That is the point of playing 10-ball instead of a rotation game that pays the money ball whenever the hit was legal.

The opponent chooses who shoots next. The pocketed ball stays down unless it is the 10, which is spotted when it was not the called winning shot. There is no separate safety call to reclassify the stroke.

Yes, on these facts. It is the second shot, and only if the break was not a foul. Wrong-ball-first and the no-rail rule are suspended. The opponent then chooses who shoots. There is still no safety call later in the rack.

A triangle. The 1 goes on the foot spot. The 10 goes in the middle. That is a different picture from 9-ball's diamond, where the 9 sits in the middle of a nine-ball pack and the 1 is at the apex.

Three consecutive fouls lose the rack. A called 10, when it is the last object ball, wins it. Early accidents that pocket the 10 bring it back up rather than paying the game.

No. This site does not run 10-ball for money. The cash cue game is 8-ball. 9-ball, straight pool, one-pocket, bank, cutthroat, and killer are also absent from that cashier.
